"Dear Mr. President..." Winners

Girl Scouts Speak Out! received dozens of PSAs from girls around the country who had plenty to say to the presidential candidates. You wanted them to know you care about the issues – from bullying to equality to the need for role models. It was a tough decision and this time we couldn’t choose just one. We’ve named two winners to share top honors.

The Winners:

Hareem, 14, from Sterling, VA, wrote a wonderful letter asking the candidates to support girls. Amanda, 15, from Normal, IL, submitted a painting which asks us to see others for the ability they have, and what they have to offer, not for gender, race, or any other factor.

The girls were inspired by their years of Girl Scouting and say they are grateful for the leadership opportunities they have had. They want more girls to get the support they need to become leaders too.

Both Hareem and Amanda were inspired by ToGetHerThere and its goal to create balanced leadership in one generation. They want everyone, including the president, ti learn what they can do to help put more women in Congress, at the helm of big companies, in science labs and even in the Oval Office one day.

Honorable Mention:

Check out these great entries from: Girl Scouts in Virginia on bullying, Girl Scouts in Northern NJ who wrote to a hypothetical female president and a group of Girl Scouts in California who made their voices heard.
